On September 4, 2007 the Memphis Center for Independent Living held a Political Soapbox. All candidates for the October 4, 2007 election for City Mayor, City Council and City Court Clerk were invited. Candidates were each asked to respond to the following question, “What do you have to say about keeping the promise of the American with Disabilities Act? How, if elected, would you use your position to further the cause of people with disabilities have full and equal access to the community?” The soapbox was moderated by  Randy Alexander, Community Organizer and Systems Change Advocate at MCIL.
